American public policy and administration scholars have traditionally treated the US as a unique case. The prevailing assumptions about the differences between the advanced countries of the global North and the poorer countries of the global South are increasingly challenged. This presentation summarizes the findings of a study in Indonesia of citizen engagement in holding health service providers accountable and looks at their applicability to public service accountability in the US.
